About Us
Welcome to Solomon Savage, where we believe in the power of peace, love, and joy—values deeply rooted in the legacy of Willia Mae Mackey, the beloved grandmother of our founder, Sir William N. Burrell. These words guided Sir William and continue to inspire our journey.
The Name and Its Significance:
The name Solomon Savage combines wisdom and relentless pursuit. Inspired by the wisdom of Solomon from the Bible and the fierce determination required to excel in any field, our brand stands for making wise decisions and striving for excellence in everything we do. The name also pays tribute to the late Kelvin Solomon, a remarkable track and field coach who mentored Sir William and ignited his passion for coaching.
Our Origins and Growth:
Our story began in the Hampton Roads area and is rapidly expanding globally. In 2019, while attending Christopher Newport University, Sir William Burrell envisioned Solomon Savage. He tirelessly created the logo and name, using vinyl and any blank clothing he could find. He spent countless hours heat pressing designs, crafting headties, hats, sleeves, and socks. His dedication led him to every track meet, where he shared his creations and built the brand's recognition.
Building the Brand:
Solomon Savage gained momentum by making shirts for events like a walking event in Alexandria, VA, and the Mackeys Family Reunion in Engelhard, NC. We provided gear to local athletes and their parents, gradually establishing our presence. Our first significant opportunity came at a Technique Track Club meet, where we set up a table, sold products, and shared our story. Throughout 2019, despite initial rejections from local teams, including those Sir William coached, we persisted, creating yoga sets and organizing our first photoshoot.
Adapting and Overcoming Challenges:
The onset of COVID-19 in 2020 slowed our operations, but we used this time to lay a solid foundation for future growth. Sir William acquired a foreclosed house, transforming it into a functional business space. We continued creating vinyl names and logos for the Technique Track Club, providing masks to team parents and athletes.
Resilience and Recognition:
In 2021, as the world began to recover, we participated in entrepreneurial events at Christopher Newport University to gain more recognition. We continued offering T-shirts to local teams, persistently advocating for our brand. The entrepreneurial event became a cornerstone of our strategy, allowing us to connect with potential clients and supporters.
Milestones and Achievements:
2022 was a pivotal year for Solomon Savage. We solidified partnerships with track and field uniform manufacturers, obtained copyrights and trademarks for our brand, and achieved our first full team uniform order for the Technique Track Club. Sir William also began coaching at Kecoughtan High School, contributing to their historic first state championship win in 2023.
Our Vision for the Future:
In 2023, we expanded our reach, creating professional uniforms for schools like Kecoughtan High School and Old Dominion University. The Kecoughtan boys' team won the state championship, a milestone that increased our visibility and demand for Solomon Savage uniforms. We also crafted AAU uniforms for the summer and continued to support high school teams through the indoor season.
At Solomon Savage, we are committed to excellence, inspired by the wisdom of Solomon and the relentless spirit of a savage. Join us on our journey as we continue to innovate, inspire, and elevate athletic wear globally.
